The Process

PHASE 1 – Understanding of the goals

In the role of creating style guides for Spark Education's marketing team, my first priority was to thoroughly understand the organization's goals. Spark Education, as a startup EdTech company, was on a mission to revolutionize education. To align with this mission, I aimed to establish a strong design foundation for future projects.

This meant collaborating closely with Spark Education's marketing and social media teams to develop style guides and brand guidelines using Canva. Drawing from my background in marketing, I used my knowledge to ensure that these design assets not only aligned with the company's objectives but also served as a strong foundation for future designs.

This collaborative effort with the marketing and social media teams allowed for the creation of comprehensive style guides and brand guidelines that were in tune with the principles of effective advertising and successful campaign strategies.

Strategy

02

Every design project has to achieve business goals. After learning them in the first phase, I try to think of a strategy to actualise them. This phase is mostly done through workshop with other designers. I’m a big believer of collaboration and co-creation.

PHASE 2

Research and Understanding

The initial phase involved extensive research and understanding of Spark Education's mission, target audience, and marketing goals. This step was crucial to aligning the design assets with the company's objectives.

PHASE 3

Collaboration

Leveraging my background in marketing, I actively engaged with the marketing and social media teams. This collaboration allowed for a holistic approach to design, integrating marketing principles into the style guides and brand guidelines.

PHASE 4

Audit and Analysis

I conducted a comprehensive audit of existing marketing materials and design elements. This audit identified areas of inconsistency and guided the development of solutions to rectify these issues.

PHASE 5

User-Centric Design

Leveraging my background in marketing, I actively engaged with the marketing and social media teams. This collaboration allowed for a holistic approach to design, integrating marketing principles into the style guides and brand guidelines.

PHASE 6

Documentation and Training

Alongside the creation of the style guides, I developed comprehensive documentation and training materials. These resources served as guides for team members, facilitating a smooth transition to the new design system.

PHASE 7

Iterative Process

The development of style guides and brand guidelines was an iterative process. Regular feedback sessions with the marketing and social media teams allowed for refinements and adjustments to ensure the guides precisely met their needs and expectations.

PHASE 8

Maintenance and Growth

The methodology also included a plan for the ongoing maintenance and growth of the design system. This involved establishing clear guidelines for updates and expansions to accommodate the evolving needs of Spark Education's marketing efforts.
